Cast Iron Cemetery Vase with Floral Relief
This early 20th century French cast iron cemetery vase (vase de cimetière) is a charming example of Art Nouveau funerary ironwork. The tulip-shaped body is cast in bold relief with a flowering daisy and broad sweeping leaves — a motif deeply associated with remembrance and mourning in French cemetery culture of the Belle Époque. Original sage-green paint survives across much of the surface, weathered to a rich, layered patina over more than a century of outdoor use. No foundry stamp is present, suggesting a small regional French foundry. Style it as a bud vase, a mantelpiece accent, or a garden ornament — its organic form and story make it equally at home in a rustic or refined interior.
