Description
Antique French Glazed Stoneware Confit Pot — A. Garot, 19th Century
An antique French glazed stoneware confit pot (pot à graisse) of ovoid form, with a pair of pulled loop handles at the shoulder and a raised foot. Finished in a rich chestnut-brown flambé glaze that shifts between copper, bronze and darker speckling across the body, with the throwing rings still visible beneath. Impressed with the maker’s stamp “A. Garot” and a “GD 95” seal. A sculptural country pot that works grouped with other vessels, on a shelf or mantel, or holding dried stems.
