Description
Antique Flax Comb
This 19th-century French flax hackle is a traditional tool once used in the process of preparing flax fibers for spinning. The thick wooden board is set with rows of hand-forged iron spikes, through which bundles of flax were drawn to separate, straighten, and clean the fibers. A simple cut-out handle made it easy to carry and secure during use. The piece retains a weathered surface with age-worn patina, showing evidence of long utilitarian use. Today it serves as a fascinating piece of rural textile history and a distinctive decorative object.
